Un-freaking-believable.
Oh wait...first of all, I'm at home. That's not the unbelievable part. I just thought I'd say that. I lived through finals week (barely) and got home Thursday evening. Today (friday) was a nice relaxing day. Glorious. Ok, back to the un-freaking-believable....
So in one of my amazingly easy courses, Communication Arts 200 (Journalism), I was doing awesome going into the last 100 points, which consisted of a feature story (50 points) and the final exam (the other 50 points) and I figured out I only had to get 60 out of that last 100 and I could still get an A....I was doing that well in the course. So, I didn't put in my best effort on the feature story....I interviewed 3 people and had plenty of information...but I thought I could've written it a billion times better. And then for the final, I studied only the 40 minutes before the test...and got it done in 10 minutes. Figure that out. 50 questions in 600 seconds. That's an average of 12 seconds per question. I was the first person done.
Tonight I got my grade for the class. Uhhh let's see...20 extra credit points for going to class every single day, then a 50 out of 50 on the feature story (good thing I didn't put too much effort into it!), and a 51 out of 50 on the final exam. And I was the only one in the class to get a perfect, or better than perfect that is, score on the final. Have I said "un-freaking-believable" yet? Yeah. So I ended with something like a 101% in the class. Oh yeah, and my other Communication Arts course -- Advanced News Writing -- I got a 109% in the class. And that was an upper 300 level course. I can't believe how easy it would be to be Journalism major at Wartburg College. Although, I think because I've learned how to write (and think, and analyze) for real, and then applied to the journalistic aspects, I'm a better student in that field. Anyway....I'm still amazed that I absolutely OWNED those classes! And to think, the other two classes I took this term I didn't need for my major...but I'm struggling to get an A- in one of them, and I'll be lucky to get a B in the other one. Yup, those are real college courses. Real college ENGLISH courses, nonetheless.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, should answer your question as to why I'm a writing major (which is a branch off of an English major), as opposed to a journalism major. So stop asking. If I wanted to pay $25,000 a year (well not really, because I don't pay full tuition...but you know what I mean) to get good grades, then maybed I would've been a journalism major at Wartburg. But then I'd probably be stupid. And my writing would suck. So what's the point?
Exactly.
