So the other day I approached a student about getting some information about the column I was working on. Stupidly, I mentioned that I was thinking about making it a negative column....this was before I had any information, other than what I had seen on posters around campus. Of course other students heard me say this, and it came back to the editor-in-chief. Damn. So she emails me saying I need to be careful when talking to sources and I should base my opinions on facts and I need to do this and that and blah, blah, blah, blah.

I understand that I shouldn't have said that I was going to write a negative column, but whatever. That's not the point. The point is, I've since changed my mind on the issue and my column will reflect that....but now it'll appear like I was pressured into changed my stance. That I let outside forces bully me into changing my words. I'm not going to change my mind again, because I have the column planned and it's obviously what I want to say....but still, I wish people would just wait until stories got printed before they get their panties in a bundle. Sheesh.

Uh-oh....methinks I shouldn't have drunk that bottle of Mountain Dew at work tonight....my 7:45 class tomorrow is going to come mighty fast!

Big news: The 2YG and I are back together again. Life is good.

I still don't have a column idea for the one that's due Wednesday at 5 p.m. I'm confident, however, that I will get inspired sometime before then.

I recieved word today that the paper is actually going to PAY me for writing now. Bonus! Little do they know I would do it for free...just to better myself.

Here's my latest column. Better than the last, I think...although I did recieve a few comments about the partying vs. non-partying....mostly from the partiers.

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and this is the first time I will get to celebrate it with a significant other (unless, of course, I screw up again and the 2YG and I split). I'm unsure of what to do. Any suggestions?

I'm going to eat some ice cream now. Peace.

The other day I was working at the library and a librarian who graduated from Wartburg 4 years ago made a comment about my last column. She said: "Corey, that last column of your wasn't very good." Man, I just wanted to give her a big 'ol middle finger, but I said, "thanks for your feedback. I'll keep that in mind."

In the past she has made comments about how the paper's columnists used to make the readers THINK, back when she went to Wartburg. Now granted, my last column was far from a pulitzer prize winner, but nothing had happened yet on campus...classes had been in session a mere 3 days when I submitted that. What the heck to do you expect? Plus, what most Adults don't realize when they read the paper is that I don't write for all audiences. 99% of what I write is for the students who read the paper. If I didn't focus my ideas that way, I would alienate most of the readers. College students are smart. They know when you're shooting over their heads and they remember that. I'm trying to get and retain readers, not sound extra scholarly. Occasionally I'll slip in some extra ideas and catch the normal readers off guard...but I wouldn't have been able to do that if I didnt' have them as my audience in the first place.

So when someone like this obnoxious librarian comes up to me and says I'm writing literally "dumbed-down" ideas, I want to shove the paper back in the face. I'm writing for the people who pay to go to the school, not get paid BY the school. That librarian is a part of the institution. The buracracy. Quit whining lady, or you'll be a part of my next column.

In other news, I did go out and buy a pack of cigs...and man, they were AWFUL! I don't know what I liked about them in the past, but I guess that has passed me by. Good thing I used my roommate's money to purchase them. So they're sitting down in his room now. Craziness.

So for like 8 hours of Friday night and Sat. day combined, I copied my CD collection onto iTunes and organized my music for my iPod. It took FOREVER! But now I have it all pretty much on there, and have some playlists made. Good stuff.

Ok, I'm going to clean up my room a little bit because there's a chance that the 2YG might come by tonight. We'll see how that goes........
