"Writing. And what are you going to do with a Writing Major? Do you want to be a journalist?" Common questions that I hear all the time. I always replied, "I really don't know. Isn't it enough to have decided my major?" Lately, though, I've been really thinking about what I'll do with it. Especially since this next semester I need to figure out where I'm going to intern next year. The thing is, I really don't think I could stand being a writer for a newspaper. Deadlines everyday, late nights, long hours....for what? A story that gives the public the bare facts, thats what. Mindless crap. You skim over the story in 2 minutes and then flip the page. I would hate that.
So what do I want to do? Write books? Well, that would be the dream job, yes....but I would probably die of starvation before I published a sucessful book....so that's out.
I think the job that fits me the best and that I would like the best is working for a magazine. Yes, a magazine. What magazine? My word, I have no idea. I have always said Esquire would be awesome....but I say that mainly because it's a prestigious magazine.....one that owns a 17 million dollar penthouse on the top floor of the Trump Towers, and that's just for their employees to use. Yea that'd be cool to work for them...but it really doesn't fit me. I'm not the kind of guy that would live on the East Coast.
Wartburg College has this deal called "Wartburg West" where students can go and spend a semester in Denver, Colorado studying and doing stuff there. This is still very very very up in the air and probably won't even happen....but I got an idea the other day. What if I could intern at a SKIING magazine in Denver? Dude! That would be awesome! I doubt I could swing that....but if I could.....wowzas. I dunno, that would be great.
At anyrate.....yes. I don't know why i felt the need to post this....but there ya go.

You know who you are. So are you beating yourself up for having a drink and getting tipsy? I don't get it. Where does it say in the Bible that drinking is a sin? Sure getting drunk to escape your life is a bad, bad, bad thing.....and a lot of things that coincide with drunkenness are bad....but find me a passage in the Bible that says "Do not drink." If I hadn't sold back my college bible earlier today, I could give to the passage that says something along the lines of: "drink and be merry, for that is what God wants." Seriously....it says that somewhere....I underlined it for this exact reason. Anyway, don't feel bad. God is there. We all have doubts. Trust me on this one. It comes with being educated. Ignorance is bliss. I may not openly express my faith like others do....it's not my style.....I usually don't wear my heart on my sleeve. But it's there. Lately with more doubt. But that happens as we age. You're not alone. Trust me.

By the way, that quote can be found on the front page of the Metro & Iowa section of the Des Moines Register, the article is on page 2S.

"The war on terrorism is World War III, and anyone who speaks against U.S. policy is an anti-patriot."
--Leon Mosely, acting chairman for the Republican Party of Iowa.

..............Does anyone else see the problems with this? Can we say censorship? No rights? No freedom of speech? Anti-constitutional? Actually, this quote in itself is anti-patriotic.

Personally, I want to kick this guy in the pants.

Any word on a New Year's Eve party?

I went to my first hardcore show ever tonight (saturday). It was pretty sweet. Begin Again (Punkrocker Joe's band), ForeKnown (a hardcore band from Duluth, MN), and Haste The Day (the best band there, and they drove all the way from Indiana!). It was stinkin awesome, I had a lot of fun....even though I stayed clear of the "dancing." I tried to take pictures of it, but they probably won't turn out. I'll try and demonstrate for you sometime. Several times, the college group sponsering the show threatened to shut it down because they had never seen the hardcore dancing. Basically, if you're anywhere near the circle, you're garaunteed to get punched or kicked. Amazingly, only one person got hurt...and it was only a bloody nose (kicked in the face).
But yea. It was sweet. I bought ForeKnown's CD and am listening to it as I type. I already bought Begin Again's CD and I have Haste The Day's CD on my computer. Yay.
I just finished revising my 10-minute play "The Big Game" a few minutes ago. Now I only need to revise "The Shortcut," study for my Astronomy test on monday, practice for my trombone jury on monday, study for my British Literature Final on Tuesday, and study for my Religion final on Tuesday.................this sucks.............
