And heres the latest news from 285 S. Lincoln St! I called up my supervisor at Westword yesterday and set up a time for Friday to meet with her and get all ready for when I start this Tuesday. She thought about it for a while and then was like, well at 2pm I have a meeting with all the editors, so why don't you come then. AIIIEEE! Talk about nerve wracking! The last thing I want to do on my first day is meet all of the editors of this newspaper! It's like meeting all the partners of a Law Firm on your first day. So I'm nervous about that, needless to say.
Other than that, there's not much else to write about. With all of my free time thus far, I've read a lot and written a lot. I think people here think I'm a little weird when I sit in the dark and type. But the dark makes me concentrate better for creative writing. It helps me to create tunnel vision....creative tunnel vision. Yesterday afternoon I was about to take a nap when I started to think about an idea for a story that I mentioned a few days ago. And then I couldn't stop thinking about it and so I had to come down to the computers and type it out. Maybe if I was a better writer I could have made it into a novel, or even a short story. I think right now it's somewhat lyrical....like almost a prose poem. Since there is only one other English Major here to share it with and I've already had her read it...and I'm confident nobody will steal it off of here, I thought I'd post it. But then I thought that in the off-chance that somebody would read it and "borrow" pieces from it, I'd be pissed off. So if you want to read it. Email me and I'll send it to ya. It's called "Cigarette Smoke" and it's not about cigarette smoke, so don't get your panties in a bundle.

Alright! I'm sitting here in the basement of my appt. building, bored out of my mind and I thought I'd give ya an update. I got up this morning at 8 and drove out to Denver in my bro's car and got at my place by about 10 a.m. It was a little difficult because my directions were from the North and I was coming from the south, so I had to figure it all out on my own while cruising down I-25 going 90 mph. But I got here and all moved in and everything. Went shopping for some lunch supplies, since I'm eating out with everyone here the next couple of days. But all of that only took a couple of hours and I had from basically 1 until 5 with nothing to do. Literally nothing. We don't have a t.v. and I forgot to grab one of my brother's books....so I was bored out of my mind! Even though I wasn't tired, I took a good hour and a half nap....and then I sat around and talked with other people here that were bored as well. Tomorrow I'm going to the public library with a couple of people and then I'll get a library card and check out a couple of books, just so I can fill the hours upon hours of boredom.
I forgot to tell a story from when I went to Breckinridge the other day. So we had been talking about how cool it would be to go sledding down a mountain....and we happened to be driving down a scenic road at an elevation of about 11,500 feet, which is about right at the point were trees no longer grow, and we saw this part of the mountain where a bunch of people were sledding, so of course we had to exit off and try it out! I don't know if any of you have been in higher elevation, but it gets really hard to breathe...especially at 11,000 feet....and we were all out of breath by the time we got to the foot of this "hill"....so only my brother and I were up to the challenge of a good sled. Personally, I wanted to climb at least half the way up, which was only like climbing a really really steep hill....in other words, not that high up....just steep. But because of the lack of air, we didn't get up quite that high....which ended up being a blessing....so we got on this two person sled and started down. Well we got going at a pretty good clip and then started spinning sideways, which caused us to have a massive wipeout....I lost my hat and was surprised I didn't lose more. It was huge. But we got back on, determined to make it to the bottom. So this time we got situated better and then lined ourselves up with a jump. This time we got all the way down and went off the jump (my bro has an awesome digital pic of this) and then bailed right away so as to avoid hitting a stand of trees. It was fun, but I kind of had a headache afterwards from our wipeouts....and my pants, hat, sweatshirt, coat, gloves, and socks were absolutely covered in snow. Oh well....it was one of the best sledding experiences I've ever had.
