Sorry, sorry, sorry it's been so long. A week! That's preposterous! I'm on break right now, and have been all week....so if that explains something, then ok. It's been a crazy week. On saturday I drove all the way out to Colorado Springs (13 hours) to my oldest brother's house so that I'd be there when he finally got back onto U.S. soil. Yup, both him and his wife are back from Iraq after serving there for more than 400 days. They're both fine and were in good spirits. It was nice to be with them...even if it wasn't for very long.
My mom and dad had been out there for a while, so we had to leave on Monday afternoon to drive half the way back to MN, and then we finished the trip on Tuesday, getting home at about 6 p.m. Sooo....I spent the first half of my break in the car, basically. It wasn't that bad, though, because the 2YG is out in Phoenix doing a service trip for school...so I can't see her over break and we can't really talk all that much.
Wednesday was a whole lot of nothing, though in the evening I did some work at Kinkos to finish up my porfolio for Thursday's interview. I also got some beer. Nice.
Thursday...yesterday....was my interview. It went better than expected. It went amazing. THEY OFFERED ME THE JOB!!! WOOHOO!! The starting pay is *meh* and the benefits are non-existant. However, I can rise quickly in the company, because it's all based upon my performance. They make money by billing hours when they work on a client's project. So the better I do, the more they can bill, and the more money I make. In other words, I don't have a set salary package...other than my starting base pay...but that also means I'm not restricted to a set salary package...like if I work on the weekends on something, I get paid for working on the weekends. If I work extra hours during the week, I get paid extra during that week.
Anyway, I told them I'd call them early next week with my discision. I'd say I'm 99% sure I'm going to say yes. It fits with what I believe I want to do. They actually WANT me to work for them. So many things fell perfectly in place for me to get the job. It's in Minneapolis. My boss is a Wartburg Grad. I'd have a job waiting for me when I graduate. And that, really, is what's important. I honestly pictured myself working at SA and Lakeville Liquors all summer...and I may work at SA during the weekends over the summer, just to save up some extra cash...but I'm not sure.
So that's the news over here. Pretty exciting stuff. Getting a job writing, though not creative writing, but still writing. Many entry-level "writing" jobs are actually editing and you don't get to write anything until your 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th year. No thanks.
Ok, enough of that. I'm sure plenty of you don't have jobs yet and the last thing you want to read is about me getting one. I'd feel the same way. So ok.
I'm heading back to Iowa tomorrow afternoon...the 2YG is coming back to Iowa tomorrow afternoon. Should be some good times. Speaking of which, didn't anybody see that the U of M is playing Iowa in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament? Man, too bad I'm not back at Wartburg right now. That'd be an awesome game to watch. Tune in at 5:30!
