I think the summer is over. Jeez. Already. And I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow. Not at all.
This last weekend, though, was a really good one. On Friday I took J out to a fancy dinner at this new place downtown called Manhattan's. It was a smidgen pricey, aka I spent a bit more than I was expecting to spend, but well worth it. I had the best steak I've had in a long, long time. We had a fantastic bottle of Ferrair-Carano cab, plus dessert. Yes, dessert. For those of who don't know me that well, I pretty much never have dessert. It's just the way I am. But Friday was one of those times where I wanted dessert. So you know it was a big deal. Anyway, Manhattan's was a superb place. We were a little put-off initially because it looked like a really casual place and we were all dressed up for a fancy night out. But then they seated us in this almost annex to the normal restaurant. And that was super fancy and romantic. Oh yeah, and we were the only two in that whole part. Also good.
Saturday J and I went to my parent's place to play some tennis and have some good quality time with my parents. Doubles tennis with your relatively new girlfriend is both potentially good, and explosively bad. Luckily, my dad (who has played tennis every wednesday night for the last 30 years) was willling to be her partner. I was partner with my mom....and we won! It was 6-4, so a good set. If we hadn't won that last game, though, I would've had to quit with us tied anyway. It was like 92 degress, with a cool wind....but i was absolutely pooped. I am way out of shape...but I do have a plan in works to get back in shape....in the upcoming months, anyway. Not yet. No, not yet.
On Sunday I went with J and her brother up to their Aunt & Uncle's house on a lake in Annandale for the day. Her parents and grandma were also there. It wasn't super hot, but it was nice being on a lake, and laying out. I even convinced J, who isn't the strongest swimmer ever, to swim out with her brother and I to the floating dock about 40 yards or so from shore. That way I could dive off of that a couple of times to fulfill my craving for diving into a lake. This summer wasn't nearly as lake & boating-filled as past summers...but Sunday definitely helped.
And then today, we played it pretty cool and pretty much only went disc golfing for 9 holes or so. That was only J's second time disc golfing, so it was mainly me teaching and her attempting. Plus, it was quite windy, so not really the ideal disc golfing conditions. Thankfully, the disc golf gods were smiling down on me and I avoided most of the trees, and had a few really impressive straight, long, and true drives. Always good for impressing the girl with my skills.
Tomorrow it's back to work. Blah. And I'm sure everyone would agree. Blah.
