Well today went well. It was a sucess, I'd say. I got smiles from a lot of people and comments from people I swear I don't know. I'm going to go ahead a keep you in the dark one more day, just to keep ya interested....then I'll share. The 2YG took some pics, but I'm going to wait until the end of the week before posting them.
In other news, yet another column has been published. Of course, the one time I choose to write about non-Wartburg events...everybody and their mother writes a political column. Mine had the prominent place on the Op-Ed pages, but still. I like to be different. There just really isn't much to write about this week...although even as I type that, I just thought of something. Bingo. It's going to take a little research, but it might be ok.
In other news, for a while I've been forming a column in my mind about the Wartburg Board of Regents and the financial state of the college (we are seriously in debt) and finally I went to the President's Office and asked if I could get the contact info for the Board. The secretary asked me what I needed it for and as soon as she heard it was for the newspaper, pretty much all of my chances flew out the window. Apparently it's the policy of the board to recieve the questions through the President, discuss them, and then release a unified response through the President. So pretty much censorship. I wanted to talk to each board member, but that's not going to happen.
I expressed my angst to some non-journalists and they said I should be able to find the contact info anyway and go ahead and ask the questions. Well, the only way that'd work is if I didn't mention I wrote for the paper. Unfortunately, not only is that pretty much illegal, it's highly unethical. Although it'd be a GREAT column, it really isn't worth the punishment.
So right now my amazing, blow-out, end-of-the-year column is dead. I may have an idea for a replacement....but it just isn't as great as the other idea. Bummer.
Ok, I need to get up for class soon. Good day.
