Today I'm doing something that I told myself I would never do: post a blog while at work. But here's the problem, they asked me to come in on Monday in case there is some last minute work to be done on our upcoming HUGE Best of Denver issue....but there wasn't. So I contacted some people that I was supposed to be talking with regarding a couple of follow-up stories. They didn't really have anything to say before, but I thought I should email them and see if anything has changed.
This past weekend I went skiing in the Mountains with my brother. My aunt and Uncle have a time-share condo in Vail, so we stayed there and then skiied at Vail on Saturday and Keystone on Sunday. It was awesome. Vail had the best snow and we were able to hit some good powder without having to go on the backside of the mountain. That day I really only fell once and that was because I forgot how to ski in the mountains and in that kind of snow -- yes, it is different than skiing in Minnesota.
Saturday at Keystone, on the other hand, was a different story. First of all, I tried to use my oldest brother's season pass. Well, I got caught and they made me go back to the car and get I.D. to prove that I didn't steal the pass and that he was my brother. And then they revoked the pass for the rest of the year and took down my information. Though they didn't press any charges, they did confiscate my Skis until I proved who I said I was. It was great. Not. And then I had to go buy a day pass that was 12 bucks more expensive than what I would've paid if I had gotten it in Denver. Oh well. It was worth a shot. But yeah, back to the skiing. The difference between Vail and Keystone is that Vail has a billion more runs and it isn't as crowded. So at Keystone I was forced to ski some places that were really hard for me, just so that we could have some variety. When I say really hard, I mean the run was moguls through trees. Yikes! I fell down numerous times on that run, but not really hard.....it was more like I was always off-balance. Half way down, though, we stopped and ate lunch along the side of the run. Amongst all of those trees, there wasn't any wind and the sun was so warm that I took off my coat, hat, and gloves, and ate lunch wearing only my t-shirt. It was great.
My biggest wipe-out of the weekend was on the second to the last run on Sat. We had decided to do the run one last time because it had some good spots to jump off of. So my brother did some tricks off of them and I just jumped, because I'm not that skilled. But there was one where I did try to do something and anticipated the jump a little too much and left the ground off-balance. Needless to say I was NOT going to land it and hit the ground hard. I didn't get hurt or anything....but it was just a little embaressing because I landed next to all of these teenage snowboarders....and the roll in the hill wasn't big at all. Oh well.
But it was a really good weekend and now my face is sunburned and my shoulders, knees, and calves are super sore. Good times.
