I think about the first time I heard pink floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It was at a Now & Then choir party in high school at who's house I don't remember, but I do remember us trying to decide on a movie, and somehow getting on the topic of how the album supposedly matches up to the Wizard of Oz. So, of course, someone ran to their car and got the CD and we got it to match up, and watched it.

--- Side note --- later on in college I got my hands on a Divx version of the two from Ghetto Bowler and the experience was much more, ah, intriguing with a little liquid inspiration. I've never done drugs and never will, but I'm willing to imagine that its even much more so.

Anyway, we ended up listening and watching the movie and I was intrigued. The next day, a saturday, I went out to the Apple Valley target and picked up the CD. On the way home, I tried to listen to it in the car and was less than impressed. To all who have never listened, Pink Floyd is definitely not cruising music. When I got home, I put the CD in my CD player and forgot about it...until one night, late at night, I couldn't fall asleep, so I put my sleep timer on and started it up.

Completely different. Wow. I absolutely loved it. From then on, I've listened to The Dark Side of the Moon hundreds of times. I've listened to it by myself. I've listened to it with a large group. I've listened to it in a darkened room, lit only by black lights, and I've listened to it while at work.

I also have The Wall, and have heard the other albums, but nothing compares for me. I'd say above all else, this is my favorite album ever.

That's a big statement. The Beastie Boys are my favorite band -- I have all of their albums, including some that I guarantee you've never heard of. I enjoy some hardcore screaming metal bands. I like rap and hip-hop. Classical music also sets the mood, along with jam bands like Phish, and I'll even toss in some mainstream country if it strikes me.

But Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It's a trip.
