Biggest mistake ever: giving a 1st trombone part to a trombone player that deserves 2nd trombone at best. Thats what I did. In the May term band it's me, my roommate, the concert band director (his main instrument is trombone) and a girl who is playing only to reinforce what she learned in methods class. So I'm playing all the first, except for that one song, my roommate plays second....except for that one song.....and the director and the girl play 3rd. The director is an awesome trombonist, but the only reason he's playing is to help out the girl and make the 3rd trombone part stronger. So on the first day of band, my roommate was like "we'll just share the 1st and 2nd part" I REALLY wanted to say "uhhhhh no." But I just quietly took the 1st parts and gave him the second parts. See, he isn't very good, but he's older than me. So I felt kinda bad and let him play 1st on an easy song. Big mistake. In this song, the trombones play a lot of whole notes and half notes thus making a bunch of important underlying cords. The first trombone part fulfills the 7th of the cord. So it's cool when he plays the right notes..........and not so cool when he plays the wrong ones, which is most of the time............so everyday I kick myself for giving him the part......................anyway...............I just needed to vent, 'cause I couldn't really say that to anybody in band, for obvious reasons.........
